Soapbox Derby Fundraiser

superkidslogoOn Saturday May 17th DALKO participated in the Greater Super Kids Classic adult soapbox derby race.  This year’s team included Diana Gilmore, Deana Tonty, Ross Gargano and Tom Smith.  The annual event is a fundraiser to raise money for the Greater Pennsylvania Super Kids Race that will be held on June 28, 2014.  The Super Kids race gives special-needs children the chance to a get a thrill riding downhill in a derby car driven by a volunteer.  The two fastest teams get to go to the All-American Rally Championship in Akron, OH.

Diesel Fuel Prices Decline For the 3rd Week

The national average diesel fuel price declined to $3.39 per gallon according to the EIA’s weekly Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update, a 1.4 cent decrease from last week.  In both the Rocky Mountain and Midwest regions the average price per gallon of diesel dropped two cents from last week to $3.95 per gallon and $3.90 per gallon respectively.  Declining one cent from last week the average price of diesel fuel is now $4.03 per gallon in both the West Coast and East Coast regions.  At $3.79 per gallon, one cent lower than last week, the Gulf Coast currently has the lowest average diesel fuel price in the nation.

First Pitch

Deana Grandy, one of DALKO’s owners, was given a unique opportunity.  On May 11th she got to throw out the first pitch at PNC Park for the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals game.  As a huge Pirates fan she was thrilled to have been chosen.

Rail Traffic Increases

For the week ending April 26, 2014 the AAR reported that carload volume was up 9.5 percent compared with the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 6.7 percent in the Weekly Rail Traffic report.  Total U.S. rail volume for the week was up 8.2 percent compared to the same week in 2013.

U.S. carload volume for the first 17 weeks of 2014 was up 2.3 percent compared with the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 5.1 percent.  For the first 17 weeks of 2014 total U.S. rail volume was up 3.6 percent from the same point last year. Read More
