Carload & Intermodal: Jan. 19
The Association of American Railroads reported that U.S. freight carload traffic was down 3.5% for the week ending January 19, 2013 compared to the same week in 2012. U.S intermodal on the other hand continues to rise, up 13.5% compared to last year.
Canadian freight carload volume and intermodal both seen an increase. Freight carload volume rose 13.1% and intermodal rose 11.5%. Mexican freight carload volume was also up, an increase of 7.4%, and intermodal volume was up 2.9%.
The combined freight carload volume for the U.S., Canadian and Mexican was down 4.8% for the first three weeks of 2012 compared to the same period in 2012. However, North American intermodal volume was up 5.9%.
