Mixed Rail Traffic

In the Weekly Rail Traffic Summary the AAR reported that for the week ending June 29, 2013 carload volume was up 1 percent, however intermodal volume was down 1.5 percent compared to the same week in 2012.  Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was down 0.2 percent compared with the same week last year.

Carload volume for the first 26 weeks of 3013 was down 1.5 percent from the same point last year, while intermodal volume was up 3.6 percent.  For the first 26 weeks of 2013 total U.S. rail traffic was up 0.8 percent from last year.

Both Canadian carload and intermodal volume was down for the week ending June 29th; carload volume was down 3.8 percent, and intermodal volume was down 1.2 percent compared to the same week last year.  However, for the first 26 weeks of 2013 both Canadian carload volume and intermodal volume was up was up.  Carload volume was up 1.9 percent, and intermodal volume was up 4.4 percent from the same point last year.

Mexican carload volume for the week was up 13.9 percent, while intermodal volume was down 0.1 percent compared with the same week last year.  Mexican carload volume for the first 26 week of 2013 was up 9.4 percent, however intermodal volume was down 0.2 percent from last year.

The combined North American carload volume for the U.S., Canada and mexico for the first 26 weeks of 2013 was down 0.4 percent, while intermodal volume was up 3.7 percent compared with the same point last year.
