For the week ending May 24, 2014 both carload and intermodal volume were up from last year according to the AAR’s Weekly Rail Traffic report. Carload volume for the week was up 6.8 percent compared with the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 8.6 percent. Total U.S. rail traffic was up 7.6 percent compared to the same week last year.
U.S. carload volume for the first 21 weeks of 2014 was up 2.9 percent from the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 5.6 percent. For the first 21 weeks of 2014 total U.S. rail traffic was up 4.2 percent compared with the same point in 2013.
Canadian carload volume for the week ending May 24th was up 11.9 percent compared with the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 9.3 percent. For the first 21 weeks of 2014 Canadian carload volume was down 2.9 percent from the same point last year, while intermodal volume was up 5.2 percent.
Mexican carload volume for the week was up 0.7 percent compared with the same week in 2013, and intermodal volume was up 6.3 percent. For the first 21 weeks of 2014 carload volume was up 2 percent from the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 2.7 percent.
For the first 21 weeks of 2014 total North American carload volume was up 1.6 percent compared with the same point in 2013, and intermodal volume was up 5.5 percent.
