Freight Shipments Rose 1.2%

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released July 10, 2013 the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 1.2 percent in May from April, 2.7 percent higher than May 2012.  The May index level was 20.6 percent above the April 2009 recession, but 0.8 percent below the all time high level in December 2011.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released July 10, 2013 the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 1.2 percent in May from April, 2.7 percent higher than May 2012.  The May index level was 20.6 percent above the April 2009 recession, but 0.8 percent below the all time high level in December 2011.

For the third consecutive month the Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) has increased according to the report released March 13, 2013 by the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).  The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 1.2 percent in January from December.  The BTS reported that the January 2013 index level was 18 percent above the April 2009 low during the recession, however it was 2.4 percent below the all-time high level set in December 2011.
