In the report released January 22, 2013 by the American Trucking Association, the advanced seasonal adjustment (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index increased 2.8% in December. The back-to-back increase in November (3.9%) and December (2.8%) were the best gains in 2012.
The SA index in December was 121.6 compared to 118.3 in November. Even though there was a solid increase, compared with December 2011, the SA index was off 2.3% making it the worst year-over-year result since November 2009. However, for all of 2012 tonnage was up 2.3%.
