US Rail Traffic Up 1.2%

According to the AAR Weekly Rail Traffic Summary carload volume remained fairly unchanged for week ending June 22, 2013, while intermodal volume increased 2.7 percent compared with the same week last year.  Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was up 1.2 percent compared with last year.

Carload volume was down 1.6 percent for the first 25 weeks of 2013 from the same point last year, however intermodal volume was up 3.9 percent.  For the first 25 weeks of 2013 total U.S. traffic was up 0.9 percent from last year.

Canadian carload volume was up 1.5 percent for week ending June 22, and intermodal volume was up 2.1 percent compared with the same week in 2012.  For the first 25 weeks of 2013 carload volume was up 2.2 percent and intermodal volume was up 4.7 percent from the same point last year.

Mexican carload volume was up 6.8 percent for the week, while intermodal volume was down 2.8 percent from last year.  For the first 25 weeks in 2013 Mexican carload volume was up 9.2 percent, while intermodal volume was down 0.2 percent compared with the same point last year.

Total North American carload volume for te first 25 weeks of 2013 was down 0.4 percent, however intermodal volume was up 3.9 percent compared with the same point in 2012.
