Mixed Rail Traffic: April 20

The Association of American Railroads reported mixed traffic for the week ending April 20, 2013, with carload volume down 2 percent but intermodal volume up 0.6 percent compared with the same week last year.  Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was down 0.8 percent compared with the same week in 2012.

According to the report release April 24, 2013 the American Trucking Association’s advanced seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index was up 0.9 percent in March.  Compared with March 2012 the SA index was up 3.8 percent.  The tonnage index was up 3.9 percent in first quarter 2013 compared with first quarter 2012. Diesel Down Six Cents

In the analysis released April 24, 2-13 the EIA reported that the national average diesel fuel price fell six cents to $3.89 per gallon, 20 cents lower that last year at this time. For the second consecutive week prices in all regions of the nation declined, with the largest decrease on the West Coast where prices dropped eight cents to $3.99 per gallon.  The average diesel fuel price in the Midwest is $3.87 per gallon, down six cents from last week.  Both the East and Gulf Coast prices fell five cents to $3.92 per gallon on the East Coast and $3.80 per gallon on the Gulf Coast.  The Rock Mountain price is $3.85 per gallon, down four cents from last week.
