No Change in Diesel Fuel Price

The EIA reported in the Gasoline & Diesel Fuel Update that the national average diesel fuel price was unchanged from last week, remaining at $3.90 per gallon.  Both the Midwest and West Coast prices increased one cent to $3.87 per gallon in the Midwest, and $4.06 per gallon on the West Coast.  The average price per gallon of diesel fuel on the East Coast rose less than a penny from last week to remain at $3.91 per gallon.  The Rocky Mountain price decreased one cent to $3.92 per gallon.  Decreasing less than one cent, the average diesel fuel price on the Gulf Coast  remained at $3.82 per gallon.

Freight Shipments in June Were Down

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index the total amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry fell 2 percent in June compared to May 2013.  The BTS analysis was that the 2 percent decrease was driven by a decline in rail carloads and pipeline shipments.  Compared to June of last year, freight shipments were up 1.8 percent.

The EIA reported the national average diesel fuel price declines one cent to $3.90 per gallon in the Gasoline & Diesel Fuel Update released August 21, 2013.  Both the Midwest and Gulf Coast prices went down two cents to $3.86 per gallon in the Midwest, and $3.82 per gallon on the Gulf Coast.  Down one penny from last week the East Coast’s average price per gallon of diesel fuel is $3.91, and the West Coast is at $4.04 per gallon.  The Rocky Mountain’s average price per gallon of diesel fuel remained at $3.93, no change from last week.
