Diesel Prices Decline
The national average diesel fuel price declined by two cents from last week to $3.87 per gallon according to the Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update released October 28, 2013 by the EIA. On both the East Coast and Gulf Coast the average diesel fuel price also decreased by two cents to $3.89 per gallon on the East Coast, and $3.78 per gallon on the Gulf Coast. The average diesel fuel price in the Midwest, Rocky Mountain and West Coast regions all declined by a penny to $3.94 per gallon, $3.87 per gallon and $4.04 per gallon respectively.

On both the East Coast and Gulf Coast the average diesel fuel price also decreased by two cents to $3.89 per gallon on the East Coast, and $3.78 per gallon on the Gulf Coast. The average diesel fuel price in the Midwest, Rocky Mountain and West Coast regions all declined by a penny to $3.94 per gallon, $3.87 per gallon and $4.04 per gallon respectively.
North American Carload Volume Unchanged
U.S. carload volume for the week ending October 19, 2013 was up 0.2 percent compared to the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 4.3 percent according to the AAR’s Weekly Rail Traffic Summary. Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was up 2.1 percent compared to the same week in 2012.
U.S. carload volume for the fist 42 weeks of 203 was down 0.9 percent from the same point last year, while intermodal volume was up 3.7 percent. For the first 42 weeks of 2013 total U.S. rail traffic was up 1.2 percent from the same point last year. Read More

Diesel prices remained steady for the week of October 21, 2013 according to the data from the Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update released by the EIA. The national average diesel fuel price was unchanged from last week at $3.89 per gallon, and increasing less than a penny the East Coast, Gulf Coast and West Coast prices also remained unchanged. The prices held steady at $3.90 per gallon on the East Coast, $3.80 per gallon on the Gulf Coast and $4.05 per gallon on the West Coast. The average price in the Rocky Mountain region decreased by one cent from last week to $3.88 per gallon. Decreasing less than a penny the average price per gallon of diesel fuel in the Midwest remained at $3.85 per gallon.

Intermodal Volume on the Rise for the 15th Week
U.S. carload volume was up 0.1 percent for the week ending October 12, 2013 compared to the same week last year according to the Weekly Rail Traffic Summary released by the AAR. Intermodal volume was up for the 15th straight week in a row, up 4.0 percent compared to the same week in 2012. Total U.S. rail traffic was up 1.9 percent for the week compared to the same week last year.

All regions of the nation had a price decrease except the West COast where the average price remained the same as last week, $4.05 per gallon. The Rocky Mountain price dropped three cents from last week to $3.89 per gallon. In the Midwest the average price per gallon of diesel fuel declined two cents to $3.85 per gallon.
