AAR Report Dec. 1

According to the Association of American Railroads U.S. freight carload traffic was down 2% for the week ending December 1 compared to the same week in 2011.  U.S. intermodal was down 1.1% compared to the usual weekly gains reported druing 2012.

Combined North American rail volume was down 1.9% for the first 48 weeks of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011.  However the combined U.S., Canadian and Mexican intermodal was up 4.3%.

AAR also released the November 2012 numbers which showed a 1.2% increase in U.S. intermodal volume compared to November 2011, but a 4% fall in carload volume.
