U.S. freight carload traffic declined 6.4% for the second week of 2013 when compared to the same week in 2012 according to the Association of American Railroads report released January 17, 2012. U.S. intermodal volume continues to go up, showing a 10.4% increase for the week ending 1/12/13.
Canadian freight carload traffic was also down 1.1% while intermodal traffic was up 7.8% compared to last year. Mexican freight traffic on the other hand was up for both freight carload and intermodal. Freight carload increased 19.6%, and intermodal was up 6.1%.
The collective freight carload volume for U.S., Canadian, and Mexican railroads declined by 7.2% compared to week ending January 12, 2012. North American intermodal volume rose 2.3%.
