Rail Taffic Up For the Week: Aug. 24

U.S. carload volume for the week ending August 24, 2013 declined 1.7 percent from the same week in 2012, while intermodal volume was up 3.5 percent according to the AAR.  Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was up 0.7 percent from last year.

For the first 34 weeks of 2013 carload volume was down 1.2 percent from the same point in 2012, however intermodal volume was up 3.5 percent.  Total U.S. rail traffic was up 0.9 percent from the same point last year for the fist 34 weeks f 2013.

Canadian carload volume for the week ending August 24th was down 0.8 percent compared with the same week last year, while intermodal volume was up 6.1 percent.  For the first 34 weeks of 2013 Canadian carload volume was up 1.3 percent, and intermodal volume was up 4.1 percent compared to the same week in 2012.

Mexican carload volume for the week was up 6.2 percent compared with the same week last year, however intermodal volume was down 4.0 percent.  Mexican carload volume for the first 34 weeks of 2013 was up 9.1 percent from the same point in 2012, while intermodal volume was down 1.2 percent.

North American, U.S., Canadian and Mexican, carload volume for the first 34 weeks of 2013 was down 0.3 percent from the same point last year, while intermodal volume was up 3.5 percent.
