For the week ending April 26, 2014 the AAR reported that carload volume was up 9.5 percent compared with the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 6.7 percent in the Weekly Rail Traffic report. Total U.S. rail volume for the week was up 8.2 percent compared to the same week in 2013.
U.S. carload volume for the first 17 weeks of 2014 was up 2.3 percent compared with the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 5.1 percent. For the first 17 weeks of 2014 total U.S. rail volume was up 3.6 percent from the same point last year.
Canadian carload volume for the week was up 5.8 percent compared with the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 11.3 percent. For the first 17 weeks of 2014 Canadian carload volume was down 5.7 percent compared with the same point in 2013, while intermodal volume was up 3.6 percent.
Both Mexican carload and intermodal volume were up for the week ending April 26th compared with the same week last year, 4.6 percent and 10 percent respectively. Mexican carload volume for the first 17 weeks of 2014 was up 1.3 percent from the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 0.2 percent.
Total North American carload volume for the first 17 weeks of 2014 was up 0.5 percent compared with the same point in 2013, and intermodal volume was up 4.7 percent.
