For the week ending May 17, 2014 the AAR reported that both carload and intermodal volume were up compared to the same week last year. Carload volume for the week was up 4.5 percent, and intermodal volume was up 6.8 percent. Total U.S. rail volume for the week was up 5.6 percent compared to the same week in 2013.
U.S. carload volume for the first 20 weeks of 2014 was up 2.7 percent compared with the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 5.5 percent. For the first 20 weeks of 2014 total U.S. rail volume was up 4 percent from last year.
Canadian carload volume for the week ending May 17th was up 8.2 percent compared to the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 9.9 percent. For the first 20 weeks of 2014 Canadian carload volume was down 3.6 percent from the same point in 2013, while intermodal volume was up 5 percent.
Both Mexican carload and intermodal volume were up for the week compared to the same week ini2013, up 4.4 percent and 6.1 percent respectively. Mexican carload volume for the first 20 weeks of 2014 was up 2 percent compared to the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 2.5 percent.
Total North American carload volume for the first 20 weeks of 2014 was up 1.3 percent from the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 5.3 percent.
