Rail Traffic Up

In the Weekly Rail Traffic Summary the AAR reported both carload and intermodal volume was up for the week ending June 15, 2013, carload volume was up 0.5 percent and intermodal volume was up 1.7 percent compared with the same week last year.  Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was up 1.1 percent compared with the same week in 2012.

Carload volume was down 1.6 percent for the first 24 weeks of 2013, while intermodal volume was up 3.9 percent from last year.  For the first 24 weeks of 2013 total U.S. traffic was up 0.9 percent from the same point last year.

Canadian carload volume for the week ending June 15th was up 2.3 percent and intermodal volume was up 0.8 percent compared with the same week last year.  For the first 24 weeks of 2013 Canadian carload volume was up 2.2 percent, and intermodal was up 4.8 percent from the same point in 2012.

Mexican carload volume for the week was up 8.9 percent while intermodal volume was down 1.8 percent compared with the same  week last year.  Mexican carload volume for the first 24 weeks of 2013 was up 9.3 percent, and intermodal was down less than 0.1 percnt from last year.

For the first 24 weeks of 2013 total North American carload volume was down 0.4 percent, however intermodal volume was up 3.9 percent compared to the time period in 2012.
