However, diesel prices in the first four weeks of 2013 have been higher than those in 2012. The EIA anticipate diesel prices to continue to decrease through 2013. According to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration report for the week of January 15, 2013 the average price per gallon of diesel was down 1.7 cents to $3.894 per gallon. This is the seventh straight week diesel prices have fallen. Compared to last year at this time the average price per gallon is up 4 cents.

Intermodal was also down from last year, it fell 8%. As noted by AAR, traffic volume was most likely effected by the New Year’s holiday falling on a Monday and Tuesday in 2013, as opposed to it falling on a Saturday and Sunday in 2012. Read More
