Diesel Up for 2nd Week

For the second consecutive week the national average diesel fuel price increased two cents to $3.67 per gallon according to the EIA report, seven cents lower than last year at this time.  Both the Gulf Coast and West Coast prices increased by four cents to $3.78 per gallon on the Gulf Coast and $4.01 per gallon on the West Coast.  The Midwest and Rocky Mountain prices both increase three cents from last week.  The Midwest’s average price per gallon is $3.93 per gallon and the Rocky Mountain is at $3.85 per gallon.  Up a penny, the East Coast price is now $3.87 per gallon.

North American Freight Numbers for February

According to the report released May 1st by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, trucks transported 59.1 percent of the freight moved in February 2013 between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners, Canada and Mexico, followed by rail at 15.3 percent, vessels at 9.7 percent, pipelines at 7.7 percent and air at 3.6 percent.  Surface transportation modes, truck, rail and pipeline, carries 82.1 percent of the total NAFTA freight flows. According to the report released May 1st by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, trucks transported 59.1 percent of the freight moved in February 2013 between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners, Canada and Mexico, followed by rail at 15.3 percent, vessels at 9.7 percent, pipelines at 7.7 percent and air at 3.6 percent.  Surface transportation modes, truck, rail and pipeline, carries 82.1 percent of the total NAFTA freight flows. According to the report release April 24, 2013 the American Trucking Association’s advanced seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index was up 0.9 percent in March.  Compared with March 2012 the SA index was up 3.8 percent.  The tonnage index was up 3.9 percent in first quarter 2013 compared with first quarter 2012. NAFTA Trade: January 2013

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ analysis released today reported that  trucks carried 59.3 percent of the trade between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, Canada and Mexico, rail carried 14.3 percent, vessels 9.8 percent, pipelines, 8.1 percent and air 3.8 percent in January.  Surface transportation modes (truck, rail, and pipeline) carried 81.7 percent of the total NAFTA trade. February Truck Tonnage Index

The American Trucking Association  reported on March 19, 2013 that the advanced seasonally (SA) adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index rose 0.6 percent in February, the fourth consecutive month that it has increased.  Tonnage gained a total of 7.7 percent over the last four months.  The SA index was up 4.2 percent compared to February 2012.  Year-to-date, the tonnage index is up 4.4 percent compared with the same period in 2012.
