US Rail Traffic Up

In the Weekly Rail Traffic report for week ending July 17, 2013 the AAR reported carload volume was up 2.5 percent compared to the same week in 2012, and intermodal volume was up 2.4 percent.  Total U.S. rail traffic for the week was up 2.5 percent from last year.

Carload volume for the first 30 weeks of 2013 was down 1.3 percent from the same point last year, while intermodal volume was up 3.4 percent.  For the first 30 weeks of 2013 total U.S. traffic was up 0.8 percent from the same point in 2012.

Both Canadian carload and intermodal volume was down for week ending July 27th, carload volume was down 0.4 percent and intermodal volume was down 2.6 percent compare to the same week last year.  For the first 30 weeks of 2013 Canadian carload volume was up 1.2 percent from the same point last year, and intermodal volume was up 4.1 percent.

Mexican carload volume for the week was down 1.0 percent, and intermodal volume was down 9.4 percent compares to the same week in 2012.  For the first 30 weeks of 2013 Mexican carload volume was up 8.8 percent, while intermodal volume was down 0.5 percent from the same point last year.

North American carload volume for the first 30 weeks of 2013 was down 0.4 percent compared with the same point last year, while intermodal volume was up 3.4 percent.
