DIESEL PRICES REMAIN STEADY!
The U. S. average retail price of diesel was unchanged the week of February 4 at $2.965 a gallon. This price is nearly eleven cents cheaper (2018).
The average price increased in three regions…East Coast…Central Atlantic and Lower Atlantic, and dropped in all the other.

NEMF Files Voluntary Chapter 11 Petition
Late yesterday New England Motor Freight (NEMF) filed for bankruptcy and will be going out of business. This will impact over $400 Million of capacity in the market when LTL carriers were already flush with business.
Vincent Colistra, a Senior Managing Director with Phoenix Management Services, LLC (“Phoenix”), and Chief Restructuring Officer (“CRO”) for the Company, said, “We have worked hard to explore options for New England Motor Freight, but the macro-economic factors confronting this industry are significant. Following two years of losses, and with continuing and unsustainable rises in overhead as well as a severe industry shortage of drivers, we have concluded that the Company has no choice but to proceed with an orderly wind-down of operations in a Chapter 11 proceeding.”

DIESEL FUEL PRICES
The U.S. on – highway diesel fuel price for the week of February 4, 2019 is $2.966 per gallon. This price is virtually the same as it was the previous two weeks. Hopefully, this trend will continue. The price decreased in nine regions of the country, and slightly increased in only one area.

It’s that time of year again…Groundhog Day! Groundhog Day always falls on February 2. This marks the midpoint between the winter solstice in December and the spring equinox in March. The world’s eyes will turn to a small town in Pennsylvania to find out if there will be six more weeks of winter or an early spring in 2019. It’s all in the hands of the prognosticator of prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phil. The festivities date back for over a century with Phil emerging from his den every year at 7:20 a.m. The crowd lines up overnight to start partying. There are bonfires, singing, dancing, and fireworks in anticipation of Phil not seeing his shadow. If not, then we will have an early spring. News crews from around the world will be at Gobbler’s Knob to record the event. There are many imposters in the country….but only one Phil. Diesel Fuel Prices
The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel in the United States for the week of January 28, 2019 is $2.965. Even though the price in California was slightly down from the previous week, it continues to be the highest in the country at $3.726 per gallon. The Gulf Coast Region remains the most economical area of the Union to purchase diesel fuel. The average price in this region is $2.789 per gallon. Seven regions showed a slight decrease in price, while only three increased. Hopefully, this trend will continue in 2019.

Polar Vortex Predicted This Week!
Polar Vortex to trigger the coldest Arctic blast in the last 20 years this week in parts of the Midwest. The coldest temperatures will be from 1/30/19 to 2/01/19. Windchill Temps are expected dip to minus 40 degrees. At that level frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes….BE SAFE!!
