The week in petroleum analysis released March 20, 2013 by the EIA reported that the national average diesel fuel price decreased four cents to $4.05 per gallon, 10 cents lower than last year at this time. Prices decreased in all regions of the nation. The largest decrease was in the West Coast where the average price per gallon fell seven cents to $4.16. The Gulf Coast price decreased five cents from last week to $3.99 per gallon. Both the Rocky Mountain and East Coast prices fell four cents to $3.97 per gallon and $4.08 per gallon, respectively. The Midwest price decreased three cents to $4.02 per gallon.

Mixed Weekly Rail Traffic
In the Weekly Rail Traffic Summary released March 14, 2013 the Association of American Railroads reported mixed rail traffic for the week ending March 9. Carload volume was down 0.9 percent compared to the same week in 2012, while intermodal volume was up 4 percent. Freight TSI Rose 1.2%
For the third consecutive month the Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) has increased according to the report released March 13, 2013 by the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 1.2 percent in January from December. The BTS reported that the January 2013 index level was 18 percent above the April 2009 low during the recession, however it was 2.4 percent below the all-time high level set in December 2011.

The Midwest and Rocky Mountain prices decreased four cents, to $4.04 per gallon and $4.01 per gallon, respectively. The region with the smallest decrease in price was the Gulf Coast, where the average price dropped three cents to $4.04 per gallon.

Joyce Grandy, DALKO’s accounts receivable assistant, has been a vital part of the DALKO team since February 2009. Joyce grew up in Sharon, PA and now lives in Sharpsville, PA with her husband Gus. Before working at DALKO Joyce dedicated her professional career to working with adults with mental and intellectual disabilities.
Although she is a Penn State graduate, Joyce is a huge Notre Dame fan. So much so that her beloved beagle, Louie, is named after the famous Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz.
When she’s not cheering on the Fighting Irish or Sharpsville Blue Devils Joyce enjoys reading and shopping!
