Employee Spotlight: Joyce

Joyce GrandyJoyce Grandy, DALKO’s accounts receivable assistant, has been a vital part of the DALKO team since February 2009.  Joyce grew up in Sharon, PA and now lives in Sharpsville, PA with her husband Gus.  Before working at DALKO Joyce dedicated her professional career to working with adults with mental and intellectual disabilities.

Although she is a Penn State graduate, Joyce is a huge Notre Dame fan.  So much so that her beloved beagle, Louie, is named after the famous Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz.

When she’s not cheering on the Fighting Irish or Sharpsville Blue Devils Joyce enjoys reading and shopping!

Rail Traffic: March 2

The Association of American Railroads’ rail traffic summary released March 7, 2013 reported that both U.S. carload and intermodal volume were up for the week ending March 2, 2013 compared with the same week last year.  Carload volume was up 0.2 percent, and intermodal volume was up 9.7 percent.  Total U.S. rail traffic was up 4.4 percent for the week compared to the same week in 2012. The Association of American Railroads’ rail traffic summary released March 7, 2013 reported that both U.S. carload and intermodal volume were up for the week ending March 2, 2013 compared with the same week last year.  Carload volume was up 0.2 percent, and intermodal volume was up 9.7 percent.  Total U.S. rail traffic was up 4.4 percent for the week compared to the same week in 2012. Drop In Diesel Fuel Prices

In the analysis released March 6, 2013 the EIA reported the national average diesel fuel price decreased three cents to $4.13 per gallon, four cents higher than last year at this time.  Average diesel fuel prices decreased in all regions of the nation.  The largest decrease was in the Midwest where the price fell four cents to $4.09 per gallon.  The East Coast’s average price per gallon dropped three cents to $4.17 per gallon.  Both the Gulf Coast and West Coast prices declined two cents.  The Gulf Coast average price per gallon is $4.07, and the West Coast price is $4.28 per gallon.  Down just a penny, the Rocky Mountain price is $4.05 per gallon.

Truck Tonnage Index: Jan. 2013

According to the American Trucking Associations’ advanced seasonal adjustment (SA), For-Hire Trucking Tonnage Index increased 2.9 percent in January.  The SA Index equaled 125.2 (2000=100) in January compared to 121.7 in December.  That makes January’s index the highest on record.  Compared with January 2012, the SA index was up 6.5 percent, the best year-over-year since December 2011.
