In the analysis released Feb. 13, 2013, the Department of Trasportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) increased 1.0 percent from November to December. Carload traffic fell 2.3 percent, while intermodal was up 7.7 percent when compared to the same week last year.
According to the AAR, cumulative volume for the first six weeks of 2013 showed that carloads were down 5.7 percent, however intermodal was up 5.7 percent from the same point last year. Total U.S. traffic for the first six weeks of 2013 was down 0.7 percent from last year. Read More
