Average Diesel Fuel Price Up One Cent

The nationl average diesel fuel price increased one cent from last week to $3.91 per gallon according to the EIA’s Gasoline & Diesel Fuel Update for August 26, 2013.  Both the Midwest and West Coast regions had a two cent price increase, the average price per gallon in the increased to $3.77 in the Midwest and $4.07 on the West Coast.  The average price per gallon of diesel fuel in the remaining three regions, the Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountain and East Coast, increased by one penny.  The average price per gallon increased to $3.83 on the Gulf Coast, $3.93 in the Rocky Mountain region and $3.92 on the East Coast.

New HOS Rules Effective July 1

Truck_TrafficEnforcement of the new FMCSA hours-of-service (HOS) regulations will begin July 1, 2013 for all commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) that are involved in interstate commerce.  Trucking companies that operate only within one state are not required to comply with FMCSA rules because the individual state rules apply instead, and therefore are exempt to the new FMCSA hours-of-service rules. CVSA Roadcheck 2013 logoThe Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and its members across the United States, Canada and Mexico will be participating in Roadcheck 2013, starting June 4 and running 72 hours straight.  This is the 26th anniversary of this annual enforcement and outreach campaign promoting commercial vehicle safety.  Top priority for both enforcement and the industry during this event will be ensuing compliance with the U.S., Canadian and Mexican federal, provincial and state motor carrier safety regulations.  During the campaign approximately three times the daily number of inspections will be conducted.  In addition to the North America Standard Level I inspections, Roadcheck will be focusing special enforcement attention on passenger carrying motorcoaches and buses and proper securement of cargo this year. April Tonnage Index Down

The American Trucking Association’ For-Hire Tonnage Index fell 0.2 percent in April compared to March according to the report released May 21st.  The index was up 4.3 percent compared to April 2012, the largets year-over-year gain since January of this year.  Year-to-date the tonnage index is up 4 percent compared with the same period in 2012.
