Increase in Rail Traffic

In the weekly rail traffic summary released April 11, 2013 the AAR reported an increase in U.S. rail traffic from 2012 for the week ending April 6, 2013.  Carload for the week was up 3.7 percent compared with the same week last year, and intermodal volume was up 0.2 percent.  Total U.S. Rail traffic for the week was up 2.1 percent compared to the same week in 2012.

Cass Freight Index: March

According to the Cass Freight Index Report shipment volume rose 5.8 percent from February to March, 4.2 percent higher than March 2012.  Freight shipments were up 6.4 percent since the end of last year compared to the same period last year.  Freight expenditures increased 6.5 percent in March, 4.4 percent higher than the same point in 2012.  Cass reported that a majority of the increase can be attributed to an increase in the number of shipments.

Diesel Prices Go Down Again

For the sixth consecutive week the average price of diesel fuel has fallen.  According to the EIA the U.S. average diesel price is now $3.98 per gallon, 1.6 cents lower.  Compared to the same time last year diesel is 17.1 cents lower.

Diesel prices declined in all regions of the nation except the West Coast where the average price per gallon increased less than a penny to remain at $4.12 per gallon.  The biggest price drop was in the Gulf Coast region where the average price fell 2.7 cents to $3.89 per gallon.  The Rocky Mountain region fell 2.3 cents to $3.90.  The average price per gallon in the East Coast is now $4.01, 1.6 cents lower than the past week.  The Midwest price per gallon is $3.96, down 1.4 cents.

Jared GrandyJared Grandy joined DALKO in September 2010 as an LTL dispatcher, and recently was promoted to Account Manager.  Jared was born and raised in Sharpsville.  After high school he attended Butler Community Collage to become an EMT, then CCAC Pittsburgh to be a paramedic.  Before joining his family at DALKO Jared worked full-time as a paramedic at a local ambulance company.  Now that he’s at DALKO he still continues to be a part-time paramedic, and teaches emergency medicine (CPR, AED, EMT and paramedic classes).
