According to the Association of American Railroads report released Feb. 21, 2013 carload volume was down 1.2 percent for the week ending Feb. 16, 2013 compared to the same point last year.  However, intermodal volume was up 13.6 percent compared to the same week in 2012.  Total U.S. traffic was up 5.3 percent for the week compared to last year. Diesel Prices Up Five Cents

For the fifth straight week the national average diesel fuel price increased according to the analysis released by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration Feb. 21, 2013.  The national average price jumped five cents to $4.16 per gallon.  This is 20 cents higher than last year at this time, and tops the previous recent high of $4.12 from the week of Oct. 22, 2012.
