According to the report released today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration diesel fuel prices have been on a general decline since October. However, diesel prices in the first four weeks of 2013 have been higher than those in 2012. The EIA anticipate diesel prices to continue to decrease through 2013. EIA forecasts that the average diesel price will remain around $3.93 per gallon through February then will slowly decline throughout the rest of the year, reaching $3.80 per gallon by the end of the year. This is the seventh straight week diesel prices have fallen. Compared to last year at this time the average price per gallon is up 4 cents.

The average price per gallon dropped 0.5 cents to $3.918 per gallon for the week of December 31, 2012. Compared to last year, the average price per gallon is up 13.5 cents.
EIA is calling for diesel prices to average $3.97 per gallon in 2012, and $3.84 in 2013 in their short-term energy outlook.
